How to Deep Clean Your Appliances This Spring

As the seasons change, now is the perfect time to give your home and your appliances a thorough deep cleaning. After all, it’s never too late to start freshening up for spring. Not only does deep cleaning make your living area more inviting but it also helps extend the life of your appliances by keeping them clean and well-maintained. Here are tips on how you can give your appliances a proper deep clean this spring.

Clean the Outside of the Appliance

The first step to deep cleaning an appliance is to clean its exterior. The exterior of your appliance should be given a good wipe-down with a damp cloth. This will help to get rid of any dust or dirt that has built up over time. To make sure you’re thorough, use a vacuum hose to remove crumbs and particles from the crevices and buttons on the front panel. If there are any tough spots on the surface, use a soft bristle brush and mild cleaner to scrub them off. To finish off, you can spray an all-purpose cleaner on the surface and wipe it down with a dry cloth for a sparkly clean finish.

Clean the Inside of the Appliance

Now that the outside is clean, it’s time to move on to the inside. Depending on the appliance you’re cleaning, this process may vary. Generally speaking, a good deep clean should include removing any shelves or drawers and washing them separately in hot soapy water. Make sure to wipe down all surfaces with a damp cloth and get rid of any debris in crevices or tight spots. Once the interior is wiped down, use a soft-bristled brush and all-purpose cleaner to scrub off any stubborn stains or buildup. Rinse everything off with warm water and dry it completely before putting it back together.

Clean Appliance Filters

The filters in your appliances can collect dirt, dust, and grime over time, which can decrease the performance of your appliance. Make sure to check and replace any disposable filters, such as air conditioning filters, every few months. For non-disposable filters, you can remove them and use a soft brush or vacuum to clean off any debris. If necessary, you can also lightly scrub the filter with a mild cleaner before putting them back in place.

Clean Appliance Ducts

The ductwork in an appliance is typically only accessible through the outside vents, so make sure to thoroughly inspect the area for any dirt or grime buildup. Use a vacuum attachment to suck out any dust or debris that may be present, then use a damp cloth to wipe down the inside of the ducts. Regularly cleaning the ducts will help to keep your appliance running efficiently and reduce any potential fire hazards.
